The Flag is hoisted at Vidya Valley: Our trystwith destiny.
We finally have a flag-pole from which we can fly the country's flag withpride. And we did it on the 15th August to celebrate our independence day.
Has our national flag ever looked more beautiful? or graced a more suitable occasion?Has the breeze ever caught it more smartly? Has it ever fluttered more snappily? It appeared that our flag was determined to cause that lump in the throat as itslowly ascended the pole and caught the morning breeze. Even the sun was forcedto peep out from behind the clouds to salute it.
Was Vande Matram ever sung with more gusto? or Jana Gana Mana sung withgreater pride?
It all happened at Vidya Valley!!
15th August is also the Korean Independence Day. Our band of Korean childrenhonoured their country and their flag too with a rendition of their nationalanthem.
15th August is also a day to remember our history and recall that our joyswere hard earned: therefore a day to thank all those who have gone before us.Children spoke about the spirit of this special day. They expressed their lovefor the country in poetry and in song.
The setting sun was witness to a small band who saluted the flag as it wasslowly brought down, accompanied by a roll of drums. Beating the retreat. Thenthe clouds parted and the rain poured down and we beat a retreat too!
Not exactly India Gate, but poignant, none-the less.
Just a few hours set aside each year to tell Mother India: "I love You".
